What to write? Tell me!

Category: Life

So, I’ve asked this before, but it’s been quite awhile… I figure it’s about time to ask again.

If you could have me write ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING, what would I write? I’ll write pretty much any topic. I’ll totally answer any question; casual, personal, really personal, whatever. Anything.

Just leave any requests in comments, and I’ll see to what needs written.

    Hi Michael,
Since you asked, I do have a question for you, one that does try to leverage your unique situation – I hope it’s not too personal…

I’m working to try to introduce Assistive Technology folks to their local Robotics & STEM groups. I’ve noticed as I represent LessonPix at AT conferences that many of the technologies that are very expensive and hard to get in the AT world are downright cheap & available in the Maker world and I’d like to help fix that.

So, here’s the question: what are the few pieces of technology that have been the most enabling for you. I’ve made the argument that a device like a switch interface (that takes a switch and controls a keyboard/mouse) is HUGE in that it gets the user’s input into software where so many things are possible. But what else are the things you’d focus on? Would it be notification (doorbell/phone), outbound alerts, home automation?

If you had a team of motivated (but relatively inexperienced) engineers that could help you, what would you ask them to first?

I look forward to your answers!
    Bill

    Hi Michael,
I haven’t been maintaining my blog or I’d leave the address here. Maybe I’ll start a new one. You’ve probably addressed questions on your belief in fate and the afterlife and soulmates, but I’ll ask anyway because I’m a curious cat.
Do you believe in soulmates that transcend this lifetime? I suppose that would also require a belief in an afterlife and reincarnation. Do you feel there are people that we are meant to meet? Have you ever met someone and felt literally like you had been waiting your lifetime to meet this person? And if so, what happens when they leave?
I’ve never been one for small talk. May as well ask the probing questions. I’ve been told I ask probing questions. I’m not sure if was a compliment.
    Do take care.

    Are you still writing fiction?

Echoing Bill – I use the TAL episode to challenge my students (all future K-8 teachers) about accessibility/technology/assumptions, etc, and it’s probably one of the best parts of the course, for them. (then they check out your blog and twitter, too since I’m also teaching that – I follow you on both.) Anything else you think teachers should know about klds with SMA, accessibility issues, basically anything you would want a teacher to know. Second: Who was your favorite teacher and why?
    Thanks from Maine!

Personally, I like when you get political…

I have been following your blog to learn about what life is like as an adult living with SMA. My son Max is 2.5 years old and has SMA type 1. I am certainly interested in the things some of the other commenters have asked about (accessibility issues, technology, favorite teachers). I would also love to read memoir-types of materials, from any point in your life. Favorite memories. Relationships with family, friends, classmates. Times that you have been surprised by something. Advice you would give someone in my shoes, or to someone in Max’s shoes (well, maybe a little older, like a teenager).
Keep up the good work on the blog…I’m really liking this latest streak.
