I don't know how you feel about High Rennaissance art & architechture, but personally my favorite place to go in the city is the Cloisters. Itls part of the Metroploitan museum of art, but a lot of tourists don't make it there because it's way uptown. It also looks like a European Gothic monastery and is surrounded by a lovely park.
