About transcription

Category: Life

So, I’m having some second thoughts about transcription. The act of writing, at least for me, is a private, solitary act. Even when I could talk, I never wanted someone to take dictation. I guess I’m pretty self-conscious about what I’m writing until it’s more or less finished. Also, all my ideas are very dark right now, so I feel really uncomfortable sharing the process of turning those thoughts into words.

I’m going to keep banging out words with my thumb until I can’t. The NeuroSwitch is less than a week out, maybe it will work.

It’s so weird, isn’t it? I hate dictating blog posts or emails in the same room as people who are about to read the posts/email, because it fels like a violation of my privacy. Makes no sense, but true.

I’ve crossed my fingers for your NeuroSwitch. You know, because you can’t. *tasteless rimshot*

If there was an electronic ouija board that would track the movement of your eyes around the letters and select one when you blinked…would something like that be useful?

Today in the class I am TAing we talked about switches, and one of them was a rocker switch that I held up to my eyebrow to see if I could operate it with said eyebrow.

I could, and easily. If the neuro fails to live up to it’s potential, fear not.

Of course the NeuroSwitch will work. Kitty Jesus is on your side.
Yeah, I can’t imagine having to dictate a blog to someone. I think writing is just a private process, especially when it’s so personal.

jadelennox: I could cross my fingers if somebody crossed them for me.

KJ: Eye-gaze systems aren’t really practical or efficient. A good switch is really the best solution.

Developing Eyebrow muscles must be a hidden bitch.

Nice metaphor though….that you have to spike yourself with pain to develop a new muscle; it’s worth the gain…cool to have opp to reprogram a muscle, one used for millions of years for something else, now, made key for a highly complex system. I wish I could learn how to take cues off of metaphors more/better and adapt them to my emotional IQ, especially when women are concerned.

Same thing for electric signal the Neuroswitch picks up; that, I love tech that has that, retrain the brain metaphors in it, …developments, they always carry an injection of hope right along with them, that regardless of how much shit sucks, there’s plenty of smart people out there , tooling away on a specialized hybrid tool, improving the future, making something, and something quite complex at that, and sometimes even with only actually, a very small, isolated improvement for a minority, but who cares, isn’t that what innovation is about, unto itself? It’s like the designer who stitched into button threads the ATM PIN# and home phone of a autistic woman, in a code, who is prone to ocd and touches of all her buttons when she walks/talks, and always forgets her PIN and phone #. Then end result is a woman even more confident, shredding out killer Art and ideas, has one less thing to distract her. Awesome.
    Anyways, It’s lunch time and I digress…neuroswitch, a comith, …

Member that movie from the 90’s “Strange Days” that stole William Gibson’s SimStim and turned it into a stupid LA murder movie? (but with great implication undertones to jacking into people’s head and hitting record would do to society) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wle3RQIK4g0&feature=related)

Well, I can’t help but think of the salespitch Ralph Finnes does about how he can sell an experience, as it was recorded, for your playback, when I think about you flying thru 100wpm via electrical impulses from your freakin head….

Hell, I want a neuroswitch, especially if it could start capturing thoughts/writtings faster than I could alone…….
